In line with our brand message of “Tamron makes contributions to society by creating New Eyes for Industry,” the Tamron group has created and offered various “New Eyes for Industry” products distinctive of Tamron, based on which we have conducted business in wide-ranging fields to make contributions to the general public.

In the market for interchangeable lenses for cameras, our company is widely known as Tamron of high-power zoom lenses and macro lenses. Based on our thorough commitment in unique ways to visual images and original technologies, Tamron has consistently kept up offering truly innovative products.
Tamron has drawn on its superior technological capabilities centering around optics to develop and offer excellent-quality products of outstanding performance in newer areas as well, such as the lens units of surveillance cameras and vehicle-mounted cameras, among other applications. In this way, Tamron makes contributions to progress in wide-ranging industries.

History of Tamron

Derivation of Company Name


The present corporate name is derived from the name of Mr. Uhyoue Tamura, who was a prominently recognized optical designer and laid the technological foundations of the company.

Production Facilities

Headquarters

  • Address: 1385, Hasunuma, Omiya, Saitama, Japan
  • Function: Head office and research and development centre
  • Equipment: Computers, workstations, LAN/WAN server, high precision measuring instruments, NC machines. Tamron’s head office, equipped with the latest technology, is the nerve centre of the company. The research and development department is equipped with CAD technology, ultra-precise measuring technology and the latest modeling facilities.

Hirosaki

  • Address: 3-2, Shimizu 3-chome, Hirosaki-shi, Aomori 036-8254 JAPAN
  • Function: Lens production
  • Equipment: High-precision NC machines, automatic lens production, precision measuring instruments.

Hirosaki is the heart of the production line. Equipped with advanced technology, this is where the mass-production of lenses takes place. The plant manufactures both high-performance optics for digital cameras and all other types of lenses.

Namioka

  • Address: 64-1, Shimoshimada, Kitanakano Namioka, Aomori-shi, Aomori 038-1325, Japan
  • Function: fully-automated lens production
  • Equipment: Fully automatic centering process facility, automatic lens polishing machines, ultrasound wash facility, multi-coating facility.

The factory in Namioka manufactures the optical elements which are the basis of our products. The plant uses fully-automatic leading technology developed by Tamron to produce diverse components ranging from hybrid aspherical lenses to ultra precise prisms and test glass.

Owani

  • Address: 31-1, Maeda, Hachimandate, Owani-machi, Minamitsugaru-gun, Aomori 038-0243 JAPAN
  • Function: Injection molding facility
  • Equipment: Instruments for three-dimensional measurement, ultra-precise measuring instruments, and automatic computer control system.

This facility is of strategic importance to Tamron, because key high-precision plastic and metal components are manufactured here. A central computer system controls the latest injection molding technology.

Optical Foshan Co. Ltd.

  • Address:West of Langbao Road City-West Industrial Development Zone Foshan, Guangdong, CHINA
  • Function: Production of lens elements and camera lenses, injection molding
  • Equipment: Lens production machinery, precision measuring instruments, injection molding machines, lens assembly.

The latest and most dynamic extension to our production capacity has been set up in China, and includes the complete production line from processing of glass elements, injection molding of components, coatings of lenses to final assembly.
