The ultimate in reach, speed and performance
The 70-200mm F/2.8 complements the extremely successful concept of the Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 and extends the focal length range to 200mm. Particular attention was placed on top quality combined with high luminosity and compactness as is the case with the award-winning 28-75mm and *SP lenses in general.
In spite of its compact construction, the 70-200mm is packed full of features, which permit creative picture taking in all situations. The professional image quality also does justice to demanding photographers. Extreme sharpness, resolution and brilliance are its trademarks. Moreover, it is the best of its class in the categories minimum focus distance (only 0.95 m in the entire focal length range) and a magnification ratio of (1:3.1).
When using full frame cameras the medium tele-range of 70 mm to 200 mm is completely covered. When used together with APS-C sized cameras, the lens offers an equivalent of 109 mm to 310 mm arises (referring on the angle of view of the full frame) **. Whether for nature, sport or people-photography, the extraordinary optical performance will inspire you.
*SP (super performance) high-capacity lenses of excellent optical and mechanical quality.
**Tamron uses a factor of 1.55 for the conversion to full frame.
The designation “Di” (Digitally Integrated Design) marks a generation of lenses, which have been specially adapted to the higher requirements of digital SLR cameras (APS-C and full frame).
Delivering leading-edge image quality
The optical design of this lens uses a high-performance XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) element, which is manufactured out of a special glass with an extremely low refractive index. The refractive index describes the ability of the lens to split a light beam into its spectral colours. The dispersive properties are even lower than standard LD lenses and are at a level similar to fluorite. The XLD lens in combination with the LD element delivers the highest contrast and brilliance. This effectively prevents the problem of chromatic aberration in telephoto photography and delivers a high level of sharpness even in the peripheral regions. The result is a lens that effectively compensates for axial chromatic aberration and magnification aberration throughout the entire zoom range and guarantees the highest resolution and brilliance for your pictures.
Enjoy the rich expressive Performance of a lightweight large-aperture telephoto zoom
With Tamron’s new F/2.8 telephoto zoom lens, you can master the expression of real depth by creating soft-focus backgrounds to emphasize the crisp, clean lines of your subjects, or take advantage of fast shutter speeds to catch action at a distance. This high-performance fast lens gives you the mobility you need to capture outstanding telephoto zoom images - majestic scenery, stunning portraits, sports action, and more.
Minimum Focus Distance of 0.95m throughout the range plus 1:3.1 for excellent macro shooting
This lens boasts a minimum focus distance of 0.95m over the entire zoom range, the best performance in its class. This makes large-aperture telephoto zoom photography possible over a longer shooting range. The lens also has a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1 (at 200mm, with a minimum focus distance of 0.95m), enabling you to enjoy close-up macro photography of flowers, insects, and other tiny objects.
Tamron SP lenses- High-permormance design
This zoom lens uses three LD (low dispersion) elements which effectively compensates for chromatic aberrations providing edge-to-edge sharpness and high-contrast image quality with flat-field characteristics over the entire zoom range. Moreover, through the use of “Internal Surface Coatings (i.e., multiple-layer coatings on cemented surfaces of plural elements)” and multiple-layer coatings to prevent reflections from lens surfaces is reduced to the absolute minimum.
